So I noticed that I actually have 508 followers. I am a bit stunned and overwhelmed because you guys are all just crazy awesome for following someone who basically just puts superheroes in sweaters. This is definitely a milestone and a milestone calls for a celebration of some sort, yes?So this is how this works:
1. Like or reblog this post2. Each person who does the above is listed in numerical order in the notes that follows this post (or at least on my tumblr template it does :)3. I’ll pick 3 numbers at random 4. And the person/tumblr assigned to each of those number will get a nice shiny print of any superladies in sweater I have posted on Tumblr.I’ll announce the number at this same time (give or take) tomorrow that that gives you all 24 hours! Get crackin’! :Dp/s I seriously love you all.

Quest to Nowhere: The Character in My Head vs. the Character in the Game: Objective Storytelling in Videogames

I’ve started blogging again, and I setup a new tumblr site to do it on so I don’t have to maintain a wordpress thing anymore.

q2n:

Upon finishing Batman: Arkham City I found myself wondering how it was that I felt like Batman when playing the game, which further led me to wondering how it was that in other games with objective storytelling I often didn’t feel like the character I was playing as.

To quickly explain what I’m…

OMIGOSH IT’S A CONTEST
Hey Chickadee is a small company run by two pals of mine — they make apparel and jewelry designed by a spread of super-talented artists (Jess Fink, Emmy Cicierega, and Miss Monster to name a few).
I’ve now done two designs for them (the matryoshka doll pendant/earring design in the banner, as well as a Musicians of Bremen tee design), and Andrew and Claire were nice enough to give me a $20 gift certificate to give away!
So here’s the rules: Reblog this post (‘liking’ doesn’t count, sorry) and you’ll be entered into the contest.  Next Tuesday (August 2nd, a week from today) someone will be randomly chosen to win the gift certificate.  I’ll make a crazy blingee with the winner’s username, because I guess that’s what I do now.
Thanks, guys!  Have fun!

I Hate the Astro A30 Headset So Much For Being What I Needed a Year Ago

Since I’ve been putting time into CoDBlOps, and using the terrible 360 headset, I thought it might be time to get a good 360 headset. What I did not expect to find was something that functioned as a PS3 & 360 headset, a PC headset, and a mobile phone headset. Which is exactly what I needed… a year or so ago.

Over a year ago I purchased, on separate occasions, a Razer gaming headset and Grado Labs SR80 headphones. Both of which are awesome at what they do (probably equal to or better then the A30’s,) but each is essentially a unitasker. Which means if I got a pair of the A30s I’d probably just end up using them for everything, since they do everything, and these old headphones/headsets will just gather dust.

Thus I am angry that I’m probably going to end up buying these things when I should have bought them over a year ago. Which makes me feel like I’ve wasted money.

tl;dr - I whine/bitch about spending money on headphones/headsets.

Dear Netflix,

It would be really awesome if I could sort of pre-cache a video stream, so that when I’m only connected to the 3G network I can still watch the video I want to. I mean then you can still do DRM checking every so often over the 3G network, I just want to be able to load things up before hand when I’m on wifi.

I don’t think this is asking too much (maybe for the content creators it is,) but this would be a most convenient and useful feature.

Nintendo can't figure out why Other M hasn't sold up to their expectations?

Maybe because you took the game out of the capable hands of a western dev team, and gave it to an Japanese team asking them to make it appeal to the west.

Maybe because you took a strong independent ass kicking female character, and took all those adjectives away.

Maybe because you’ve spent years chasing a casual audience that buys maybe 1 game a year, then made a hardcore game and expected the hardcore players to actually buy it you hadn’t been ignoring them.

Just maybe…

MTV dropping Harmonix makes sense

MTV (well Viacom their parent company) is apparently trying to sell of Harmonix, and that sort of makes sense seeing as MTV owning Harmonix was a little odd to begin with. I mean it was a great partnership, and is probably one of the major factors in why Rock Band was able to be such a big success, but with music games kind of on the way out its probably the best time for MTV to let Harmonix go. They made their money, Harmonix really put itself on the map, and right now is probably the best time for the two to split ways.

And seeing what they’ve done with Dance Central, I’d like to see what Harmonix can do outside the plastic instrument genre (that is if you don’t count the Kinect as a plastic instrument.)

Idea Time

I thought of two potential ideas for things for me to do with my tumblr blog, rather then it sit here abandoned (and somewhat old.)

1) Post about food and restaurants in NYC (and possibly other places too.) Since there seems to be no shortage of good food there, and working in the city means I have access to a lot of it.

Possible post title: Food Digest[ion]

2) Posts that are first reactions to video games I’m playing/game news. Sort of the opposite of the more in depth, thoughtful writings on my blog.

Possible post title: Gamematically Uncorrect

My NYC Outing

Friend’s place in Queens -> Bareburger (lunch (Ostrich bacon cheddar burger (yum))) -> nap -> McSorley’s Old Ale House (10+ beers?) -> Bi Bim Bop place Ramen place (dinner (delicious ramen and curry)) -> hookah bar (smelled nice, not that I smoke.) -> late train back to NJ -> sleep

How Not to Write A Game Review

It doesn’t start as a bad review, but the reviewer just gets too caught up in being clever instead of reviewing the game. I mean it’s fine being clever, but that should have stopped after the first full paragraph. Instead it really muddles the whole review, making it rather confusing and hard to follow. Especially because after reading it it seemed like they didn’t like the game, and yet looking at the score they apparently gave it a “B.”

There are some other problems with it, but mainly the lesson to be learned is know when to stop being clever and get back to the task at hand.
